Paresis Hall

The good looking young men in these images were "working boys" at the infamous "Paresis Hall" male brothel that was located in New York City. Situated on Fifth & Bowery, off of Coopers Square. Paresis Hall was one of 3 male to male clubs that existed in NYC beginning in 1890. Photographs were always taken of the boys to be given or sold to "clients", depending on the generosity to the boy or the spending habits at the club. These photographs prompted longings and a return visit.

    I think my first exposure to the existence of Paresis Hall was in a book entitled The Alienists.
    A fictional mystery novel, yet highly accurate in terms of NYC geography, landmarks, and social tone at the turn of the 19th century, since it was written by a very knowledgeable and handsome historian whose name escapes me. Some of these "Working Boys" were highly regarded, and rewarded. Most were not as fortunate.
